We began this project with a few intensive days of design workshops and stakeholder interviews. WSOL and NDOT worked closely to re-establish a new site architecture – one that took into consideration the ways that their audience might be looking for information, as opposed to one that mirrored the internal organizational structure. We utilized native Ektron CMS functionality to set up permission based administrative roles for site authors. The site itself is configured with Ektron’s eSync technology, to ensure that the site is always backed up and in sync.
We didn’t want to deliver a separate mobile site, so instead we crafted a layout capable of adapting to both large and small screens. The small screen layout is optimized to take into account touch interactions and the constraints of a smaller viewable area.
With its adaptive layout, emergency alert system, and numerous other features, the new NDOT site is sure to connect truckers, travelers and contractors with the information they need...no matter where they are.
