Choosing the correct Web Content Management (WCM) platform is essential, but determining the best choice among the myriad available options can be difficult. Gartner has released their 2014 Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management, and WSOL is excited to see that some of our partners have been included as Visionaries, demonstrating that they are a good choice for companies who want to take advantage of the latest WCM tools.

What is Gartner’s Magic Quadrant?

Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, has leveraged its client base, the Global 3000, to gather information about the top WCM platforms and determine how well they meet their stated claims about product capabilities and features. Using this data, they divide the top vendors into four categories:

  • Leaders – Companies who dominate in one or more technologies or vertical markets and are positioned with a clear vision for the future.
  • Challengers – Solid vendors that perform well for many enterprises, but the question of whether they are positioned to succeed in the future is not clear.
  • Visionaries – Forward-thinking companies who have a vision for where the market is going, but need to increase their ability to execute.
  • Niche Players – Vendors who focus successfully on a small segment of the market, but due to this narrow focus, are less likely to innovate or outperform others.

In addition to placing vendors within these categories, Gartner’s report provides information about each company’s strengths and any cautions that potential customers will want to be aware of. This provides companies looking to utilize a WCM platform with a wealth of information about which vendor can best meet their needs.
