Systems Administrator

Our Systems Administrators are an integral part of our day-to-day Hosting operations.  Their daily tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Configures, upgrades, and provisions servers spanning several different platforms and configurations.
  • Performs monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair of all aspects of servers, operating systems, and hardware.
  • Knowledge of server operating systems to include Microsoft Windows, Cent OS, and Ubuntu Linux, as well as an understanding of VMware ESX server.
  • Basic knowledge of network protocols, principles, and concepts, including the ability to troubleshoot local connectivity issues.
  • Understanding of file systems and the ability to perform basic data recovery.
  • Performing routine maintenance activities on customer server environments.
  • Responding to customer impacting events.
  • Ability to perform basic recovery procedures utilizing operating system boot loaders.
  • Command line knowledge for both Microsoft and Linux preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic configuration and troubleshooting of SSH and Microsoft Terminal Services.
  • Ability to follow defined operational standards, understand data center critical infrastructure, and understand server operating systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and desire for excellence.
  • Ability to manage high pressure client situations and build trust with clients.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple simultaneous issues.
  • Support responsibilities include:
    • 24x7 rotational on-call support, troubleshooting, incident notification and resolution, problem management, post-mortem analysis, and root cause identification.

Requirements

Requirements for the Systems Administrator job position are as follows:

  • 2+ years experience in system admin areas.
  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems and/or equivalent experience in the administration, installation, and maintenance of enterprise networking environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows 2003, 2008R2, 2012R2, and Linux servers.
  • Working knowledge MS Internet Information Services 7 and higher.
  • Working knowledge of Backup/Retrieval technologies - preferably R1Soft and/or Veeam.
  • Working knowledge of VMWare and associated virtualization technologies.
  • Working knowledge of system monitoring and management tools – preferably Zabbix.
  • Working knowledge of Internet networking technologies and principals including TCP/IP, DHCP, FTP, and DNS.
  • Basic working knowledge of MS SQL Server maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Interact with non-technical colleagues and communicate issues in layman's terms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
